From Jane Austen to Toni Morrison to Haruki Murakami, there are numerous authors with a substantial body of work that could be explored to find what makes them unique and how they consistently use their work for a specific purpose.
As far back as the Odyssey, writers have created underworlds and has become one of the most important motifs in mythology/literature. We will read various different works that use this motif and explore the significance of the underworld/netherworld to the work while also examining what it tells us of the culture and their beliefs.
Classic stories and myths have always been a large inspiration for writers. With this, we will be exploring the longevity of key themes and ideas while also looking at key differences in the retellings that alter the overall message of the text.
Utopian/Dystopian
What if our world was a little, different? What if we never went through the Industrial Revolution? What happens if we had a World War III? Explore alternate versions of our reality and ask what if with us!
Occult/Supernatural
From vampires and werewolves to witches and covens, the supernatural genre has it all. These books can range from dark and mysterious to epic and fantastical, so let's explore!
