GHG emission statistics from garbage dumps and analysis.
▫️ In landfill sites, the types of waste emit GHGs in the following pattern.
▫️ Of all the GHGs emitted here, methane is the most abundantly released gas.
▫️ The CH4 and CO2 together form more than 37 metric tons of GHGs every year.
▫️ A basic approach to reducing CH4 from landfills is to reduce the bulks of waste produced.
▫️ Besides that, biosolids can be used to make a topsoil layer to cover landfill sites that are no longer in use. The microorganisms in the biosolids can convert CH4 to CO2. (Although CO2 is also a GHG, it is less potent than CH4.)
▫️ Additionally, landfill gases can be burned to produce energy as it will be a good renewable energy source.
