Description: body; elongate-oblong, slender. Dorsal colouration glossy black, ventral colouration similar; legs glossy black. Head unique to this genus; base of the head constricted into a neck; head very short, but rather broad; surface of the head mostly smooth; two weak dimples may be found on the frons; eyes very large, bulbous, strongly bulging laterally. Clypeus very small, located between the antennal bases (the base of the scapus is pale yellow); labrum roughly the same size, fully black; front margin sinuous. Mandibles strongly curved, short; flattish, usually opaque orange in colour. Palpi dark. Antennae setose (lined with many very long setae, often used to hunt springtails); the scapus is considerably longer than any of the other antennal segments, glossy black in colour, with a greenish hue; pedicel reddish, very small, with a large frontal notch at the base; the second and third antennomeres following the pedicel are cylindrical, rough; all remaining antennomeres should look like normal carabid antennae, but are still setose, and the shorter antennal pubescence begins on the third segment following the pedicel. Pronotum hevagonal-ovate, flattish. Front angles obtuse-rounded; lateral marginsl angles strongly obtuse; hind angles obtuse; basal margin usually straight. Lateral margins beaded, with one marginal seta on the lateral angle apices; hind angles obtuse, sharp; basal margin weakly sinuous. Median line thin; the pronotal disk on either side of the median should be elevated, smooth, glossy black. The basal dorsal margin should be weakly punctate; one slender, elongated dimple may be found on either side of the lower median. Scutellum small, exposed. 12 well-defined, pitted striae per elytron, intervals flattish. The 4th elytral interval should possess three well-spaced pits. Interval 7 should also have 2 or three similar pits. Humeral shoulders round, apices round, somewhat pointed.
