Description: Elytra rough, 17-18 striae on each elytron. Deep elevated facial furrows, glossy black in colour, cervical groove of head smooth, matte black. No deep furrows behind eyes, clypeus moderately spherical.
Subspecies:
Scaphinotus rugiceps incipiens (Casey, 1897)
Body tends to be blue-grey or matte black, elytral striae become difficult to follow closer to the apex of the elytra, but prominent nearer to the base of the elytra.
Scaphinotus rugiceps rugiceps (Horn, 1872)
Body fully black, elytral striation more consistent than seen on S.incipiens. Pronotal region cordate, but rounded.
