Scaphinotus punctatus
Size: 13-24mm
Seasonality: Late December-June/July
Distribution; Southern California, Baja California, Mexico

Description: Body matte black, elytra glossy, two triangular pits-one on each side of the median line-may be seen at the base of the cordate pronotum (cordate, base truncate.) Marginal grooves (elevated 'carina') of pronotum narrow, width consistent as the groove runs from the left and right posterior angles of the pronotum to the anterior section of the pronotal disc, where the groove curves slightly inwards, at which point the carina abruptly ends. Two setae can be found, if not broken off at some point in time, on the pronotum. One yellow-brown seta on the left lateral margin, one on the right, beside the pronotal margins.
Abdominal region ovate, robust, tip (apex) of elytra pointed, and slightly upturned. Stria nonuniform, lined with many misshapen punctures.
