Information: Largely nocturnal, during daylight hours, may be found resting in wait among leaf litter, beneath logs and likewise. Only in damp locations with a fairly constant supply of soft-bodied prey.
Description: body: elongate-ovate, semi-robust. Pronotum cordate, to different extents depending on the population; matte black, margins upturned. Head semi-glossy or matte black; triangular, narrow. Eyed small, bulging slightly; face long. Thick antennal pubescence beginning on the third antennomere after the pedicel, antennae black. Palps black, final segment triangular, edge pale yellow. Elytral region ovate, margins wide, vibrantly coloured. Because the colouration of this species is so variable, photos of several colour variants are included below. 12-15 deep, ragged striae per elytron, intervals granulated irregularly. Elytral apices pointed. Ventral faces glossy black, legs glossy black.
