Distribution; Coastal California and Southwest Oregon, to the Sierra Nevadas
Information: S.cristatus, which upon first glance may seem nearly identical to S.striatopunctatus, may be distinguished by the deeply pronounced facial furrows, or 'crest' found atop the head of the beetle. I have heard some folks refer to this crest as resembling that of a Klingon's head crest.
Description: Pronotum matte black, base of pronotum squared then becomes cordate between this section and the base of the head. Femur noticeably girthy, tarsi elongate-conical, each red-brown to black in colour.
