Size: 10-12.4mm
Seasonality: February-October
Distribution; AZ, BC (VCI), CA, CO, ID, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA
Information: often seen in riparian habitats.
Description: body: elongate semi-oblong, slender, flattish. Dorsal colouration semi-glossy black on the elytra, the head, pronotum, and ventral faces/legs are glossy black, almost semi-glossy. Head triangular; surface of the head mostly smooth, with two shallow dimples on the frons. Clypeus with two very small setigerous pits; labrum short, but broad; flat; front margin wavy. Mandibles triangular-elongate, tips curved. Palpi piecous, with yellow tips. Eyes angles forward somewhat, though bulging, not doing so strongly. Two supraorbital setae over each eye. Scapus mostly black, slightly reddish, as is the pedicel; the first antennomere after the pedicel is slightly longer than the scapus, but more slender; all other antennomeres slightly longer than the pedicel. Antennal pubescence begins on the second half of the second antennomere following the pedicel. Pronotum weakly cordate; base weakly constricted; front margin curved inward; front angles acute, nearly squared; lateral margins sinuous; basal margin sinuous, moving inward slightly at the median; hind angles obtuse, nearly squared. Lateral and basal margins beaded, marginal beading vanishes abruptly before the median. Median line thin, shallow, but fairly well-defined; pronotal disk should appear to have a network of minute cracks across it; otherwise mostly smooth. Base wrinkled, with one long, narrow, deep depression on either side of the lower median. A total of four marginal setae should be present: one laterally on the beading just before the front angles (on both sides), and one (on both sides) on the beading of the hind angle. The base of the pronotum should be narrower than the humeral shoulder width by the width of 2-2.5 elytral intervals. 8-9 deep, well-defined striae per elytron, intervals weakly raised. Stria 2 should have two setigerous pits touching the 2nd stria, on the 3rd interval; interval 3 should also have one setigerous pit touching the 3rd stria, located near the elytral base. Laterobasal ridge entire, typically exposed. Humeral shoulders rounded-obtuse, lateral margin beaded; apices sinuate.
