Information: May be found within dry, coniferous forests, open desert, mostly nocturnal.
Description: Mature adults: Body fully matte black, pronotal disc with obtuse or rounded hind angles, at which point the width should be near that of the head. Immature adults red-brown or yellow-white, nearly mature adults often Antennae black, elongate-filiform, each segment covered in a thin layer of pale setae. Elytra should be roughly twice the length of the pronotum. 8-9 striae per elytron.
May be easily sexed in the field by checking if the carabid's protarsi are modified; if widened, with pads on the underside, then the specimen is a male, if narrow, with no pads, then a female.
