Description: body: elongate-oblong, flattish. Dorsal/ventral colouration varies from glossy black, to glossy reddish-brown, to metallic brown-black. Head triangular, about the same size as the pronotum. Head smooth; two very weak dimples on the frons; labrum rectangular, very short, broad; mandibles curved at the tips; palpi dark or pale depending on the body colour; antennae dark; antennal pubescence begins on the second antennomere following the pedicel. The base of the head should be constricted into a neck. Eyesbulge laterally, not strongly. Two supraorbital setae over each eye. Pronotum somewhat quadrate, front margin straight; front margins obtuse, lateral margins sloping outwards, then towards the base, weakly sinuate; hind angles obtuse; basal margin weakly rounded. Pronotal margins weakly, or strongly beaded; beading vanished on the basal margin. Median line deep or shallow; most of the disk should be elevated slightly; pronotal disk depressed on either side of the lower median bulge, rough: depression depth varies. Pronotum slender. Scutellum relatively large: exposed. 8 shallow, but generally well-defined striae per elytron, intervals typically flattish. Laterobasal ridges and humeral shoulders strongly sinuate-rounded. Elytral margins thinly beaded. Lateral margins mostly straight; apices round, sinuate near tip of apex.
Major Diagnostic Feature: the metatarsi (tarsi found on the middle pair of legs) should each have a furrow running along them.
