Distribution; sw. OR, CA-c.TX-KS, s. to Costa Rica.
Information: very active diurnally around and on wet sand.
Description: body: elongate-oblong, multicoloured. Head triangular, metallic bronzish, brown, and dark blue; heavily punctate, containing each long setae; mandibles small, curved; eyes very large, bulging laterally. Antennae fully pubescent, including the scapus and pedicel. Pronotum not truly ovate, cylindrical; front angles strongly obtuse; lateral margins round, lateral margin at the base straight; hind angles squared; basal margin straight; lateral margins beaded. Median line weak, pronotal disk punctate, with setae. Pronotal disk dull, blotchy rust-coloured, green, and blue. Small scutellum exposed. 8 striae per elytron, the basal half of the striae are pitted with large fovea, the apical half of the striae are unaltered; intervals mostly flat, each dotted with a single row of fovea, from which fairly long, pale setae protrude. Elytra ovate, convex. Colouration consistently blotchy; humeral shoulders dark brown, followed by a pale tan section, sometimes with slightly darker markings, then a thin blotchy strip of dark brown, alongside pale tan again: see the first photo provided. Ventral colouration glossy black with dark green, coated in long setae; legs orange with long setae.
