Information: very similar to Polpochila erro, which is not known in California, except both male and female P.erro have two apical setae on the final sternite, while P.capitata males and females both have four.
Description: body: elongate-oblong, robust: convex. Head large, eyes very small, bulging weakly. Entire dorsal face of body dark reddish brown, nearly black; ventral faces should be dark red and brown, legs amber, opaque. Mandibles large, broad, weakly curved into sharp point at apices. Dorsal surface of each mandible heavily wrinkled. Lower mouth parts pale or dark amber. Antennae short, segments squarish; dark reddish-amber in colour, thick antennal pubescence begins on the first antennomere following the pedicel. Pronotum transversely ovate, lateral margins with small bead, complete. Hind angles obtuse, lateral margins rounded, front angles squared or weakly obtuse. Pronotal disk smooth, small patch of micropunctures should be present near both hind dorsal angles. Median line faint or absent. Scutellum partially exposed. Humeral shoulders obtuse, sharp. 8 well-defined striae per elytron, intervals flattish, glossy. Humeral shoulders obtuse; laterobasal ridges entire, but weak; lateral margins rounded, elongate; apices pointed. Ventral: final abdominal sternite should have four apical setae on both male and females in this species.
