Notiobia purpurascens
Size: 8.4-10mm
Seasonality: February-November
Distribution; CA-AL, MO, Mexico
Information: might be found among leaf litter, under loose bark, on walls and at lights at night.
Description: body: elongate-ovate, moderately robust. Dorsal colouration of the elytra may be either semi-glossy to shiny blue, black, or black with slight green hue. Head squarish; face short, dorsal surface of the head smooth; only one long seta over each eye; head seems wide due to distance between the eyes. Eyes weakly bulge laterally, not reduced. Head dark, mandibles curved, broad, and typically reddish, bordered with black. Labrum generally pale. Palpi fully yellow. Antennae pale yellow or orange; the first antennomere following the pedicel should be about the same length as the scapus; antennal pubescence begins on the second half of the first antennomere following the pedicel. The dorsal surface of the pronotum should match the colour of the elytra; lateral margins opaque, pale; lateral beading entire on lateral and basal margins, absent on the front margin. Pronotum laterally ovate. Median line weak, most of the disk should be smooth, slightly rough around the base; slightly wrinkled along the front margin. Only one seta on either lateral margin, about halfway up the margin. Front angles obtuse, lateral margins round, basal margin fairly straight, hind angles obtuse. The base of the pronotum should be overlapping the base of the elytra when the beetle is flat, obscuring the laterobasal ridges and the majority of the scutellum. 7-8 shallow striae per elytron, intervals flat, no elytral pubescence; humeral shoulders obtuse; lateral margins elongate-rounded; apices pointed, weakly sinuate. One preapical pit on either elytron, may be found on the 3rd interval, touching the 2nd stria. Ventral colouration dark brown to black, glossy; limbs pale orange-yellow.
