Description: body: elongate-ovate, robust. Body colouration fully dark red-brown. Head squarish, large; surface of the head mostly smooth, with two small, triangular dimples on the frons; the base of the clypeus as wide as the distance between the two mandibular bases; lateral margins of the clypeus strongly slope forward; lateral and anterior margins thinly opaque yellow; labrum rectangular, anterior margin wavy. Mandibles very strongly curved, very thick, broad. Antennae short, thin; pale to somewhat dark orange in colour; antennal pubescence begins on the second half of the first antennomere following the pedicel. Eyes weakly reduced in size, bulging laterally; one supraorbital setae may be found over each eye. Pronotum semi-quadrate, nearly as broad as the elytra, short. Anterior pronotal margin weakly curved inward; anterior angles rounded obtuse; lateral margins weakly sinuate; lateral margins weakly opaque; hind angles squarish; basal margin transverse, or nearly so; lateral and basal margins thinly beaded. Median line thin, shallow; centre of the disk should be smooth; the dorsal surface of the disk along the pronotal base should be heavily micropunctate, punctures shallow. Scutellum partially exposed; laterobasal ridges entire, often partially obscured by the pronotal base; ridges transverse. 8-9 well-defined striae per elytron, intervals flattish. No elytral pubescence present. Humeral shoulders obtuse; lateral margins weakly rounded; apices pointed, roundish. Legs similarly coloured to the elytra, often with paler tibiae.
