Description: body: elongate-oblong, weakly convex. Dorsal and ventral colouration of mature adults should be very dark, glossy piceous, nearly black. No dorsal pubescence. Head somewhat squarish; aside from two rounded dimples on the frons, which continue onto the clypeus, the surface of the head should be smooth. Eyes laterally bulging, but slightly reduced in size. Labrum rectangular, margins yellow, anterior margin wavy, no medial tooth. Mandibles nearly straight, short, weakly curved at the tips, blunt. Mandibles dark piceous. Lower mouth parts of amber colouration. First three antennal segments (scapus, pedicel, first following antennomere) should be pale or dark orange, other segments are dark. [Pronotal disk varies in how cordate it is between locations and populations.] Anterior margins transverse, anterior angles obtuse; lateral margins sinuate, with thin, reddish beading; hind angles squared, or nearly so; basal margin weakly sinuate, thinly beaded. The pronotal base should not overlap with the elytral base. Median line present, but varies in strength; centre of the disk is smooth; the surface of the disk along the base should be riddled with many micropunctures; the depressions on either side of the lower median bulge should be shallow. Scutellum exposed, laterobasal ridges entire, not strongly elevated, no humeral tooth. 8 well-defined striae per elytron, intervals flattish, without pubescence. No, or very faint elytral microsculpture should be present. Humeral shoulders obtuse; lateral margins weakly curving outward; apices somewhat rounded. Legs dark piceous to dark yellow-orange.
