Distribution; North America including Greenland, Iceland, UK, n. France and Belgium, Scandinavia, ne. Asia.
Information: may be found in wet, often muddy areas along waterways, lakes and ponds, marshes, etc.
Description: body: elongate-ovate, slender. Head triangular, face short, dorsal surface of head smooth, head glossy orange-brown. Eyes small, weakly bulging laterally. (The bumps seen on the specimen shown are not normal, these occured probably due to a genetic abnormality.) Scapus yellow, pedicel brown-yellow, first antennomere following the pedicel generally yellow, then the rest of the antennae should be brown. Antennal pubescence begins on the first antennomere after the pedicel. Maxillary palps brown, tips pale yellow. Mandibles dark orange, tips black. Pronotum small, rounded-quadrate; hind angles rounded-obtuse, front angles acute, weakly curved in towards the head. Small, rough impressions should be found on the dorsal surface interior of the two hind angles, rest of disk smooth, glossy brown. Lateral margins upturned. Two short, pale setae on both lateral margins of the pronotum, one (on both sides) just behind the front angle, and another (on each side) on the tip of the hind angle. Lateral and basal margins rounded. 7-8 well-defined striae per elytron, elytral disks glossy pale brown. Humeral shoulders squared, tips rounded off; very fine, faint apical pubescence present. Elytral margins thin, upturned slightly, rounded. Ventral faces piceous, legs orange-brown.
