Description: body: elongate-ovate, broad, flattish. Dorsal colouration weakly glossy, greyish-black. Head somewhat large, triangular; surface of the head mostly smooth, often somewhat rough; one supraorbital seta over each eye; eyes not large, weakly bulging laterally. Clypeus relatively smooth, no wrinkles; labrum nearly square, with thin, opaque orange margins, anterior margin weakly wavy. Mandibles thick, often used for crushing small seeds and some small invertebrates; mandibles reddish-black; curved close to the face, tips blunt. Lower mouth parts pale yellow-orange. Scapus and pedicel pale, some individuals with half of the first antennomere following the pedicel also pale, remaining antennal segments dark; antennal pubescence begins on the first antennomere following the pedicel (segment 3). Pronotum semi-ovate, weakly convex; anterior margin strongly curved inward; anterior angles weakly obtuse, jutting forward; lateral and basal margins beaded--beading dark red; lateral margins rounded, pronotum broadest at the base; hind angles rounded-obtuse; basal margin very weakly curving inward. Pronotal disk mostly smooth, median line faint, with faint wrinkles scattered across the disk. Parascutellar pits present, scutellum exposed. Elytral shoulders about as broad as the pronotal base; 8 well-defined striae per elytron, intervals flattish, matte or nearly so, no elytral pubescence present. Humeral shoulders squarish or weakly obtuse; lateral margins rounding apically; apices end in roundish points. Flight wings typically fully developed. Ventral faces and legs glossy black.
