Information:
Often found in the galleries of bark beetles (Scolytinae). Their cylindrical shape allows them to crawl into the bark beetle's holes. They most likely feed on the larva and eggs of the bark beetles and are considered to possibly be beneficial to trees. They are also attracted to UV lights at night.
Description: Body; Greatly elongate and cylindrical; uniformly dark brown to black. Appendages brown to dark orange. Tarsal formula 4-4-4. Elytra with many deep striations and small punctures. Pronotum with many small punctures and 3 grooves (2 shallow grooves on either side of the deeper medial groove). Tips of elytra slope down towards the apex. C. lineola is the only know species on the West Coast.
