Riverview School District: Serious Success is our motto
Focus on providing a safe, respectful learning community that offers diverse opportunities to meet the unique talents and needs of our students. Invested in fostering leaders and lifelong learners and working together to support each student and the school community.
Share the work that I have done with my school district as well as my involvement as president of ISTE TEN and a member of the leadership team of MLN. The vision of my school district is focused on serious success providing a diverse amount of opportunities for our students and providing support for teachers and for the school community. Artifact 2 shows the committees in my school that I help with that focus on the vision of our school district. By participating in these groups and advocating for opportunities for our students to engage in learning beyond our school, I work to promote the shared vision of our district. With ISTE TEN, we have monthly themes and set annual goals which are included in this artifact. I contribute to the JDLTE and share our goals.
By providing many different types of opportunities ranging from community discussions, our leadership team meetings, monthly Twitter chats and newsletters, and virtual and in-person events, including pre-conference events for supporting pre-service teachers and new teachers at the annual ISTE conference, the work we do together addresses each of these points in our annual goals.
The screenshots aboe and below share correspondence between members of the health and safety team and also how we used Teams to create different groups to collaborate. We met regularly and created resources within each group in order to support all educators in the community. As PD chair, I am involved in many discussions and want to provide as much as I can to support teachers and having the digital space made it easier for all to be involved and informed.
ISTE Community: As a member of the ISTE PLN, I contribute to a variety of activities to build PLNs and provide learning opportunities and support for other educators. I participate in town hall meetings with various stakeholders to discuss pressing issues in education and work together to develop a clear vision for our work.
Start each year with a survey to find out what student and family needs are for technology. Below, I share some of the opportunities that I have tried to bring in for all of our students and ones that I have been successful with. I wrote a few grants and received two grants for resources in my STEAM course. Advocating means helping others and participating in different learning opportunities to share ideas and engage in conversations with other educators seeking to promote digital equity.
In addition to these activities, I have been advocating for the adoption of digital tools that will benefit all students in our school district, particularly those that also offer Immersive Reader to help with language learners and promote accessibility. I work to share the tools that I find to be the most helpful for diverse learning needs, and I also collaborate with special education teachers to learn more. I have also been researching how to provide access for students and families and making other teachers aware of resources to look into, such as everyoneon.org.
*Below are screenshots from a presentation that I did, which show examples of the grants I had applied for and obtained and additional ways that I advocated for equitable access.
Below is a collaborative presentation by members of the Teacher Education Network was created and presented to educators in person. Our team focused on sharing tools that promote accessibility and offer a variety of features for supporting student learning and personalization and the diverse needs of all learners.
Presenting a session on tools for teachers to use with students to help build essential future ready skills. I share my challenges and the risks that I took in trying new methods, the successes and failures, and how I used them to reflect to improve. Being vulnerable and sharing the wins, near wins and failures is essential for building teacher capacity and developing our self-awareness so that we are continually learning and growing as educators.
I share how I have created different learning opportunities and modeled new resources and tools for both educators and students. In my classroom, as I often bring in different digital tools for my students, sometimes students cannot understand precisely how to do something on a certain platform. I’ve had parents ask questions so that I would make a quick video to demo. I have done webinars on a regular basis when teachers need help with a certain area. Since I don’t always record them, I will make a quick video to share with colleagues in my school or local school districts and also with educators who connect with me in different learning networks.
Following the GDIT 705 course with Dr. Kush, I explored several new coding resources with my students and also presented sessions to educators at conferences and virtually.
Exploring research and reevaluating my practice when bringing technology in.
Participating in ambassador and certification programs to learn about new features of digital tools and to bring new ideas/strategies into my classroom, especially for remote teaching.
Research into AI and Generative AI
I was able to obtain a Marty the robot for my class and learn with my students about all of the ways to use Marty for learning about coding. At conferences, I presented about Marty in some of my sessions and even joined in at the expo booth to talk with teachers about our experiences.
Emerging technologies and new tools, sharing how to use them.
Providing a free webinar for educators to engage in PD about AI. I share the tools, how to use them, evaluate and get started in the classroom.
Providing regular webinars to educators around the world focused on AI and other digital tools that enhance teaching.
The following images and videos are examples of webinars and tutorials I have presented or created for students and teachers. The benefit of having opportunities to collaborate is that you receive and give feedback and can reflect on the presentation. Also, it is good to have the recording so that it can be shared with a wider audience and give other educators access to a quick capture of resources and ideas to use in the classroom.
For educators like myself who are curious about what they can improve upon, using the recording as a way to self-assess is great. Because I was presenting with someone or had someone facilitating a session with me, it lessened the worry about presenting and made it feel more authentic and natural. It was a good way to consider how I thought that I conveyed the information and use it to decide what I could improve upon.
A webinar on Augmented and Virtual Reality, with demonstrations of how teachers can use these tools for learning and leading. Using surveys and being able to ask for feedback and input from attendees is helpful for my professional growth and for targeting the specific needs of my audience.
Curicon was a free PD event for educators to learn about AI. I led a session specific to language educators. It pushed me to really think about the importance of bringing these technologies into all classrooms.
We discussed AI, AR and VR and how to get started. Tools to use and how to decide what to bring into the clasroom. It was a video and a podcast.
We talked about tools and explored ways that world language teachers can transform their lessons, how to find the right tools to use, and the benefits they have. It was viewed many times and my hope is that those who watched it were able to gain some new ideas and maybe even confidence in stretching themselves professionally. For me, it was a new opportunity to connect with a different network and be spontaneous and off-the-cuff with responses, as it was not a planned, fully scripted presentation.
Served as a panelist to share input about technology and tools for educators and engage in conversations with other professionals in the edtech space.
I have become more comfortable with taking on some of these opportunities to speak, even if my level of knowledge or comfort is lower because it is a chance to take risks and continue to learn.
Explaining the concept of metaverse and what it means for education and the future of work.
As a lead speaker, I had a higher level of expectations for what I needed to do in order to prepare and also was nervous about the questions that might be posed, as I am not an expert. I continue to learn and build my knowledge and use these opportunities as ways to push myself to grow professionally.
Invited to speak and teach about AI, AR/VR, SEL, STEM, other emerging technologies and how educators can find the right tools.
It was also a chance to discuss and explain different digital tools and how educators could use them and the benefits.
During the course with Dr. Kush, I learned about new coding tools that I had not used with students and gained new insight into the tools. In my 8th grade STEAM course, I showed students how to get started with the tools and also learned from them, some new ideas for how to use them and troubleshoot. I created this video as part of the final project and have used some of it in presentations on STEM at conferences and during webinars.
I learned additional ways to use coding resources with my students and also extended my skills beyond what I was comfortable with. Being able to look closely at different resources and evaluate them was very beneficial to my practice and it also encouraged me to involve students in the evaluation process as well.

The PBL presentation was designed for a group of educators in Kentucky as part of ongoing after-school PD. I will be providing a variety of sessions on topics such as artificial intelligence, assessments, augmented and virtual reality, podcasting, PBL, SEL and STEM.
These opportunities have provided me with the chance to connect with and learn from other educators and bring new ideas into my classroom as well.
I created a presentation for educators focused on teaching essential skills and how to involve students in a variety of learning methods. I modeled and highlighted how to use a tool like Genially to create presentations for teaching students and also how students can easily learn to use it as an alternative to traditional presentation tools.
The presentation was delivered virtually for a global event held by Genially for educators and it was also used for several conference presentations that I had during the past year.
