Hello parents!
I'm so excited to start the year with your students. We'll be using a math curriculum called Illustrative Math, and a big goal for third grade is for students to become experts at multiplication and division facts. This is a skill they'll use for years to come!
You can expect your child to have homework each night. This will often be a review of what we've learned in class, but it's also a chance for them to practice their facts for about 10-15 minutes. We'll use a variety of tools in class, including IXL, workbooks, and Google Slides.
Throughout the year, we'll dive into many exciting topics, such as:
Adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers
Telling time and calculating how much time has passed
Fractions
Measurement and money
To help your child build their skills, please encourage them to practice with flashcards. I've also sent home a multiplication chart and a packet full of fun dice and card games you can play together. These are a great way to make fact practice feel less like work and more like play!
