The Artist-Teacher section highlights the delicate balancing act of being an artist and a teacher. We are cognizant that each artist-teacher explores their own creative practice in their own unique fulfilling way. We find each process and artistic outcome inspirational and aspire to share the many varied incantations of what being an artist-teacher may encompass.
For each issue, we highlight the work of an Artist Teacher through a reflective rationale as well as a accompanying insert. The insert is intended to highlight the creative aspects of the artist-teachers work and intended to be visually impactful, serving not only as an inspiration for our readers but something that art teachers can post within their classrooms.
Artist-Teachers are encouraged to submit a selection of written works and images that they feel holistically represent their process. This could include:
a reflective document explaining intentions, inspirations, process
images of the art-making process, sketches, sketchbook pages, writing drafts, etc.
images of resolved works
images of the artist-teacher's studio or works in a gallery setting.
For the Artist-Teacher Rationale: we would like to highlight your work as an artist and as a teacher.
Please share 5-10 images (of your artwork or your studio area/process) and about 1500 words discussing your views on being/balancing being an Artist Teacher.
Some ideas for your reflective rationale you could consider are:
How do you balance being an artist and a teacher?
How do find inspiration?
What is your creative process?
What advice do you have for aspiring artists and/or art teachers?

The insert is a tradition with every issue of Canadian Art Teacher/ Enseigner les arts au Canada, intended as a teaching resource and in recognition of the ongoing artistic practice and inquiry spaces created by Canadian art educators.
The Insert is a stand-alone double-page spread (Tabloid size, 11 x 17) that visually showcases an exploration of the artist-teacher's artwork and/or art-making process - in a poster form. The poster form is used by many both digitally and manually - as teachers can download and print the insert for display in classroom settings.
You are encouraged to share images of your work and possibly of your process and also some thoughts; your inspirations, insights about how you balance being an artist and a teacher, explanations of your process; whatever you think could inform and/or inspire our readers.
For the final publication, we work with a graphic designer who is able to organize your images and text aesthetically.
