Our Founders

Anusha Gupta

Hi! I'm Anusha Gupta, a senior at Washtenaw International High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan. I’m passionate about making a real impact in my community through public health, social justice, student leadership, and educational endeavors. I work with my county to educate parents and students about their healthcare rights, volunteer with elementary aged children to tutor them in reading and writing, and I am a local health educator who goes to middle and high school health classes to teach students. I am hardworking and academically-oriented, but I really enjoy getting out in the world, connecting with people, and creating positive change, which I am hoping to and very excited about doing more of with Camp COVID.

Adi Orlyanchik

Hi! My name is Adi and I am a senior at Washtenaw International High School in Ypsilanti, MI. I'm super passionate about education and empowering children to love learning! I have a significant amount of experience working with children: I have worked at a tutoring center for over a year, run workshops about women's health in my school community, and work at a math tutoring camp over the summer. COVID-19 definitely changed a lot of things for me, instead of stressing over school I was now hanging out with my younger siblings all day- in fact, seeing my restless six-year-old brother was what inspired me to start this project. With Camp COVID, I hope to not only take the load off of parents, but also to help cure kids of their boredom!

Hi! My name is Owen McAlister-Lopez and I'm currently a senior at Washtenaw International High School. I am involved in the newspaper club, drama club, and business club at my high school and have been working at the tutoring program Kumon for two years now. I believe in the power that our community has to work together, to grow and learn from each other, and to support each other in difficult times, which is why I was so enthusiastic to join Camp COVID. I hope you all enjoy this camp as much as I have!

Hi! I am a freshman in high school at Washtenaw International High School. I really enjoy baking, cooking, painting, and doing puzzles. I usually spend my summers helping out at my aunt's daycare, but due to COVID-19, I am not able to this year. Instead, I decided to join Camp COVID, which I am super excited to be a part of this summer.

Hi! My name is Maya and I am a sophomore at Pioneer High School. I am a member of the theatre guild and student council. In my free time I love reading, writing, and spending time with my friends. I really hope that during my time at Camp COVID I am able to bring some smiles to kids’ faces during these difficult times and to add a little bit of happiness to their lives!

Hey! I am a freshman at Washtenaw International High School and I am so so so excited to be a part of Camp COVID. I love spending time with little kids, and that is one of the reasons I joined this amazing team. I am so excited to be able to meet everyone and get to know new people. Hi there! My name is Georgette and I am a rising senior based from Manila, Philippines. I enjoy going outdoors, playing the piano, and baking! During my previous high school years, I joined our school’s music band and served as a copy-reading editor for the school’s official newspaper. I currently keep myself busy with different activities such as blogging, writing for an online magazine, and teaching young children in our local village. I can’t wait to meet more children through Camp Covid!

Danbi Choi

Hello! I'm a senior at University Laboratory High School. At school, I'm part of our cross country and track and field teams as well as student government, school clubs involving community outreach, and a student mentorship program. My love for science stemmed from a research internship I participated in my sophomore year of high school and I'm so excited to share this interest with others! I've also been working with kids for the past four years at our local hospital which only grew my passion for helping kids learn more about the world around them. I'm super excited to be a Camp COVID counselor and create fun memories this summer!

Lily Jones

Hi, I'm Lily Jones. I am a freshman at Pioneer High School. During middle school, I enjoyed playing basketball on my school team and travel team, and several other sports and clubs. Camp COVID is a great fit for me because I love kids, and I wanted to do something to fill in for babysitting because I can't babysit currently. I am really excited to be a part of this program! My practices will be filled with basketball for different levels based on the class you sign up for.

Hi! I’m a sophomore at Skyline High School. At school, I’m part of the golf, hockey, and lacrosse teams. I have been a part of peer-to-peer and reading buddy programs. Hi! I’m a senior at Pioneer High School. While most of my time during the school year is taken up by playing in the band and on the tennis team, I’ve been loving using all this free time to explore new ways for me to be creative, which is why I’m so pumped to be co-teaching both the Artistic Journaling and the Writing Workshop classes! I’m hoping that I can help provide your kids with some happy memories during these trying times, as I’m sure they’ll provide for me!

Ohm Patel

Hi! My name is Ohm Patel and I am an 8th grader at Arizona College Prep. I am always aiming to do better in my academics, swimming, violin, and guitar. I tutored younger students at another school in math and reading, and I am excited to be a part of Camp COVID because I love to teach students and improve their well-being. I specialize in advanced math and I am learning how to code, which is why I am so thrilled to teach kids about those this summer!

Hi! I am a junior at Washtenaw International High School. I am passionate about advocating for healthcare and climate justice. During the school year I participate in clubs like HOSA, my school's newspaper, and Student Government. Outside of school, I enjoy working as a peer educator where I teach about healthy and unhealthy relationships. In my free time, I like to bake and read. I am really excited to be a part of Camp COVID and can't wait to lead the "Let's Cook" program with Calista!

Hi! I am a senior at Skyline High School. I am a hard working and motivated student and runner, and I love to help out wherever I can, especially now during COVID-19. I love working with kids, and have experience volunteering at previous camps and Saturday school classes. I hope to be able to help the kids that have been having a hard time during this pandemic and give everyone a good time!

Hi, I'm 16 years old and I am a junior at Washtenaw International High School. I love to volunteer with animals, spend time with friends, and bake with my mom. Hi! I’m a senior at Plymouth High School. I’m always striving to achieve my goals especially in school and volleyball. I’m really passionate about community service and having an impact to make a difference for the better. I love working with kids, and have experience from my babysitting job and my Mosque’s Saturday School. Hi! My name is Mythily Lokam and I am a senior attending Washtenaw International High School. I chose to be a tutor at Camp COVID because I'm invested in the wellbeing of my community and love learning new things. I regularly work at a local Kumon Math and Reading Center as a tutor for students, ages 4-15 and am a part of a couple of science-related clubs as well as organizations advocating for mental health awareness and menstrual equity. I'm super excited to work with you and learn alongside our campers this summer!

Hello Everyone! I am a senior at the Early College Alliance at Eastern Michigan University. I have a passion for animal science and plan to attend Michigan State University in my future to become a veterinarian. I love spending time with kids, and have been working with elementary level kids for four years now. In my free time, I love to draw and paint, and I even have my own studio in my basement where I work. I can’t wait to meet all of you this summer!

Hi! I’m Leah, and i’m a senior at Pioneer High School! During the school year, I’m often busy playing violin in my schools orchestra, playing on the ultimate frisbee team, and being a part of Lights Crew within Pioneer Theatre Guild! During lockdown, I’ve had a lot of time to explore more of my artistic side, which is why I’m so excited to be co-teaching the bullet journaling class! I hope to help kids get just as much out of art during this time as I have!

Deborah Abodunrin

Hi I'm Deborah, a Junior at Washtenaw International High School. I love to play volleyball, cook a variety of foods, and interact with different people. When I heard about Camp COVID, I was eager to jump to the challenge. As a person with younger siblings, I empathize with them when they feel restricted because they have nothing to keep them busy. I have experience in coordinating children's activities for VBS at my local church and love to connect with kids of all personalities and interests. I am so grateful for this opportunity to keep children around the world engaged and happy!

Hey! I just graduated from Pioneer High School and will be taking a gap year and then attending Tufts University. I am passionate about creative writing, the environment, and social justice. Currently, I am one of the March for Our Lives Michigan state directors, so I coordinate gun violence prevention efforts across the state. I love babysitting, singing a cappella, writing poetry, reading, and hiking!

Noa Orlyanchik

Hi! My name is Noa Orlyanchik. I love being outside, playing lacrosse, swimming, animals, and reading. I have always wanted to help in my community whether it is volunteering at Camp COVID or somewhere completely different. I'm super happy and excited to be volunteering as a counselor at Camp COVID this summer and I enjoy every minute teaching and having fun with the kids

Hi! I'm a senior at Plymouth High School. Ever since a young age, I've always loved to volunteer and help those in my community as they've given me so much. I'm so excited to be a counselor for Camp COVID and be able to give back to the community and bring joy and smiles in the kid's faces even during this uncertain time. I love working with kids, as I've done tutoring for NHS, and seeing all the creativity they have at such a young age especially when they release it through art since art was such a big part of me growing up. I can't wait to be a Camp COVID counselor this summer!

Hi! My name is Karley Yung and I'm a senior at Washtenaw International High School. I play piano and am part of my school's Student Government, HOSA, and depression awareness club. I also work to fight period poverty and menstrual stigma. At my church's nursery and Junior Church, I have experience working with young kids, and I believe Camp COVID is an amazing program that can help kids continue to learn.

Hi! I am a junior at Pioneer High School. I’ve been an avid birder since the second grade and founded the Ornithological Society at my high school. I am so excited to be co-leading “Bird World” and sharing my love for birds with you all. Aside from birds, I play the clarinet, piano, and guitar as well as help design an awesome robot as part of the PiHi Samurai Robotics team!

Hi, my name is Karishma Mathew, and I am a freshman at Washtenaw International High School in the fall. I enjoy playing the piano and spending time with friends and family. Hi! I'm a junior at Huron High School. I love helping my community, especially the younger ones learn about the wonders of science and nature. I am a part of the theater and robotics clubs at my school and student teach a chemistry class for middle and elementary schoolers. Working with children is an amazing experience and I am so excited to co-teach "Bird World" and encourage kids to explore the great outdoors!

Janie McMillin

Hello! My name is Janie McMillin, and I am a senior at a virtual high school this year. I am so excited to be a part of Camp COVID for many reasons, but the main one being my passion to help and learn as much as I can. Things including medicine, acting and women's studies have always intrigued me. I think it would be such an amazing experience to somehow pursue a career in all these someday! When I'm not doing school, I really enjoy hikes, playing with my dog, and learning French. I am so excited to meet everyone this summer at Camp COVID and learn from this amazing experience!

Hi everyone! I'm Allison, and I am a senior at Skyline High School. Some of my favorites include: hiking, skiing, playing the card game spoons, and story-telling with my friends and family. I am also involved in biology-related extracurricular activities, which has prompted me to learn more about the science and reasoning behind the COVID-19 pandemic this summer. Hey everyone! My name’s Peter and I’m a senior at Huron High School. I play both golf and trumpet and love being outside, whether I’m biking, hiking, running, hammocking or just exploring. I’ve always been intrigued by history and biology and have had several awesome experiences being involved with kids as a tutor and also through other youth summer camps. Hello! I'm a senior at Pioneer High School. My love for educating children largely stems from volunteering at Leslie Science and Nature Center's summer camps. In school, I co-lead a Women in STEM club, a humanities club, and serve on Student Council board. Outside of school, I take art and ballet classes, write for Dear Asian Youth, and I'm the editor-in-chief of Art in Conversation Magazine! My name is Joshua Liang. I will be in 12^th grade during the next school year. My pronouns are he/him/his. Some of my hobbies include riding my bike, taking pictures, recording videos, going to different places, and listening to music. I grew up and currently live in Canton. The reason I want to teach a Camp COVID class is to interact with others. In the past, I have worked with young kids and I am disciplined. The coronavirus has had a negative impact on me where I don’t get to see my classmates in person that often and I think that interactions online will be a good idea.
