This project will allow me to explore how social media can impact peoples opinions, realationships and daily habits.
According to the social media quiz, I have a very healthy realationship with my social media usage. I was not surprised when my results came because as much as I do enjoy dome scrolling as the next person, I do not allow my phone or any of my devices to take control over my thoughts, feeling or physical being. One of the most used applications on my phone is my reading app and sometimes as I am reading i'll randomly go to tiktok or instagram but to make sure I am not spending too much time doing so I read physical copies of books and I have screen time notifications set so if I notice I have been on more than average, I entertain myself with any of my hobbies that does not require me being stuck to my phone.
I found this statistic interesting because I expected TikTok to be the most-used social media platform, but YouTube actually has the highest percentage of users at 84%. I chose this statistic because it challenged what I believed about social media and made me curious about why YouTube is used by more people than TikTok. Since TikTok is so popular, especially among younger people, I assumed it would be at the top.
This statistic relates to me because I also tend to think of TikTok as the most popular app due to how often I see people using it and talking about it. Looking at the data made me realize that my perspective is influenced by the people around me and my own social media habits.
I think social media has both positive and negative impacts on society. When used responsibly, it makes it easier for people to stay connected with friends and family, share ideas, learn new skills, and spread awareness about important issues. It also helps small businesses promote their products and reach more customers without spending a lot of money. However, social media can also cause people to spend too much time on their phones instead of interacting face-to-face. It can spread false information quickly, lead to stress and low self-esteem through unhealthy comparisons, and make cyberbullying more common. Overall, I believe social media is a useful tool, but it should be used responsibly and in moderation to avoid its negative effects.
While completing ths project I learned that social media is more than useful but users should limit themselves if necessary, so it does not impact who they are.
