Most human beings would like to think that humans are somehow special (unique, distinguished)
compared to other living beings. And it is our innate nature that makes us special. It is natural
that we are special. It is obvious! It does not matter whether “our nature” is God-given or the
result of evolution or something else.
Innate: inborn, we are born with it. Not acquired later in life. For instance, breathing is innate
whereas learning a new language is acquired. The capacity to learn a language, your native
language, however, is innate. All human beings, regardless of which culture they are born into,
have the inborn capacity to acquire their mother tongue.
Now, the question is: are we special or not? If yes, in what ways are we special?
If we consider human beings to be special (that is, superior), then we are anthropocentric.
Anthropocene – the Age of the human impact on the planetary systems
Anthropocentric – humans are at the center of Life
Anthropos (Greek) - human
I do not believe that Humans are superior than animals. I think wa have some capacities and animals have their capacities. Maybe you have won the fire war but we are definitely not the smartest on the Earth.
