For years CAMBA sailors have been figuratively racing for Phil's Cadillac. Phil sensed that the competition was enhanced when the stakes were higher. Although a number of people have won the Cadillac, only Phil got to take it home.
All that has changed! In 2006 CAMBA was bequeathed a trophy from an anonymous source. The Trophy is called PHIL'S CADILLAC. Phil and the trophy are pictured below.
The conditions attached to the trophy are:
Each race day (Tuesday) the fifth race is designated as the "race for Phil's Cadillac." The previous week winner or his designee will determine the race course for “Phil's Cadillac."
The previous week winner or his designee will select the race course for Phil’s Cadillac
The winner of the race will be awarded custody of the Trophy until the next race day. The winner must ensure that the trophy is available for award on next race day.
It is expected that PHIL'S CADILLAC will evolve in to major event in the Radio Sailing world, similar to the Lombardi Trophy for pro football or the America's Cup in yachting.
Sadly, after a long and heroic battle with leukemia, Phil Tiberio passed away in late October 2008. The club decided the best way to honor Phil’s memory and sporting spirit was to continue to race for the Caddy each week.
