Perpetual Trophies

The Capital Area Model Boat Association has five perpetual trophies. Three for the Soling One Meter and one each for the US 12 Meter and Open One Meter respectively.

Soling One Meter

The oldest and most prestigious is the Soling 1 Meter Perpetual Trophy. The Soling One Meter cup has been awarded since 1994. The trophy is awarded to the skipper with the lowest total point score for the Spring, Summer, and Fall series.

The second trophy is the Memorial Cup (nee Alec Brown Cup). CAMBA skippers have been competing for the Memorial Cup since 2007.  The cup was originally dedicated to a former club member who passed away after a long courageous struggle with leukemia. In 2016 the members voted to rename trophy the Memorial Cup to honor all the CAMBA who have passed away.   The Memorial Cup is awarded to the winner of the CAMBA Memorial Regatta sailed in conjunction with the Town of Colonie’s Fall Festival in mid September.

The third trophy is the Larry Grant Founders Cup. The cup honors Larry Grant and others who established CAMBA in the early 1970s. CAMBA’s skippers have been competing for the Founder Cup since 2009. The Founders Cup is awarded to the best match race skipper. The score is based on the best two scores in the three round robin match race series.

Implicit in the three perpetual trophies is the notion of a triple crown. To date there has not been a triple crown, although several skippers have won two legs of the crown.

The CAMBA Memorial was not held in 2022 or 2023
