Adapting Famous Writers
Skills Improved in ENG4U
The first skill that has been improved from last year's course is my ability to analyze texts and identify language features and structure features (narration styles). The first picture is an example of my improved ability to identify and use language features in my writing, as I identified a metaphor which proved my ideas as well as my thesis for my comparison essay, which Mr. Cohen awarded with the praised fire emoji. I used the metaphor to prove my statement about the treatment of the protagonist of my ISP novel. The second picture is an example of my improved ability to identify and use structure features and incorporate them within my writing to prove what I am saying, which was done in my comparison essay. These features are essential to forming a well written and proven essay, as reflected in the grades achieved for the essay. While these skills will not necessarily help me within my future school career, they will still be useful within reading because it has increased by ability to analyze text better.
The second skill that has been improved from last year's course is my ability to find academic sources, and use them in my essays and assignments to prove statements. This photo shows the use of an academic source, which was used in my ISP to prove my thesis. The source used in this photo represents one of the best academic sources used in this course, since it proved my exact thoughts without having to justify the statements made in the source to better fit my statements. The ability to use academic sources to prove statements is crucial for my success in university, since the STEM pathway will require me to do so.

The final skill that has been improved from last year's course is my ability to form strong theses for my essays. The essays done in this course were based on very complex topics, and I was able to incorporate the level of complexity/difficulty within my theses, which were then proved within the essays. They were very detailed, which makes them different from the theses I made last year, and school years prior. This skill will be extremely important for my the future; specifically in university where I will be required to write papers constantly.
ENG4U Work I'm Proud Of
I am proud of my ISP presentation which I did on the novel Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese. I really enjoyed this novel, as well as the movie. So, having this enjoyment made it possible to analyze the novel so thoroughly, as shown in my adapting famous writers assessment, comparative essay, and my ISP slideshow. The only marks lost were based on communication, which is why I am proud of how I did on this.
I am proud of my comparative essay I did, where I compared the novels And Then She Fell by Alicia Elliott and Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese. This essay contained a really strong thesis, along with very strong writing to prove this thesis. This was the first assessment I have ever done that has received a fire emoji, which combined with the very high grade (only having marks lost based on two block quotation mistakes), makes me proud of how I did.
