Each of our divisions, save two, are alive and well.
We have two that are alive, but no one wants to lead their respective divisions, so the membership is attending active divisions. There was a third division (Northern Colorado), but a phone call was all that was needed to Michelle K. to accept an appointment and a challenge to find her own replacement when she felt she needed to move on. She has been serving for a year, recharging that division and doing a great job.
Northern Utah has been doing a great job working with the Pizza Box program, which will be presented nationally during the NMRA National Convention in Texas. The program has been very successful in introducing families to the model railroad hobby with graduates moving further into the hobby.
Our 2023 Region Convention, to be held in Albuquerque, is in conjunction with our BOD and the annual Rails Along the Rio Grande train show, during the second weekend in November. The first weekend in November is the annual Intermountain Train Expo in the Salt Lake area, and the weekend after Thanksgiving there is the Denver train show, the largest show in the region.
Coming up the first weekend in August is the Evanston, Wyoming annual Roundhouse Days train show. The roundhouse and machine shop will be home site to the 2024 Fremo-N meet in July 2024 - as they say "Be there or be Square"..
As far as membership is concerned, since July 2020 (membership at 806) to June 2023 (membership is 663). The loss is about 50 per year - we need to do better at retention!
The 2024 RMR Regional Convention is being planned and hosted by Northern Utah - looking for a new and fun way to do things, get the NUD to do it! Stodard Mfg is the host site, and of all things, Stodard builds commuter type trains. They are Swiss-based and have invited the NUD to host a train show on-site in addition to their open house with the public invited. The Division will host the regional convention there.
Overall, RMR is very alive and well!
'Til next time,
Lowell
