A PAGE OUT OF HISTORY – 40 YEARS AGO

In clearing out some old stuff, I ran across some fliers and a time table for the 1977 NMRA National Convention here in Denver - “Rocky Rails ‘77”.

This convention brought many new members to the NMRA and Rocky Mountain Region.  We had about 2,800 attendees, filled about 5,000 bus seats on scheduled tours, and had special programs for non-rails, teenagers, children 7-12 plus a nursery.

In addition to the regular convention activities, we followed the convention with a four day tour covering the Silverton Branch of the D&RGW and a photographer’s special on the Cumbres and Toltec.  This tour had seven buses with 280 people plus guides and drivers.

Also, following the convention, Winter Park was celebrating the Golden Anniversary of the Moffat Tunnel.
