SILVER SAN JUAN
The Silver San Juan Division held its Spring recruiting event at the Farmington Museum on May 14, 2016 for a full day of modeling and historical presentations. Dr. Stan Rhine came from Albuquerque, NM to speak about his research and modeling of the D&RG’s high side gondolas with several scratch built models. Some of Dr. Rhine’s work has appeared in the D&RGW’s historical group magazine, “The Prospector.”
Farmington modeler, and author Jim Griffin spoke on his MOW D&RGW HO scale car.
Charlie Nidever from Arizona discussed issues and techniques of modeling an underground mine on his club’s layout.
The prototype scene was covered by two excellent clinics from Jim Becker of the Galloping Goose Society of Dolores, and the Durango Railroad Historical Society represented by George Neideraurer. “From the Workbench” and a swap finished out the program. The meet was well attended and the program enjoyed by all.
The Fall Event will be held at the Durango Head Start Office in Durango on October 1, 2016. Cres Flemming will speak on the the RGS, and there will also be presentation by Soundtraxx on their new decoder. A tour of the new Soundtraxx facility is also planned.
