FRONT RANGE DIVISION

The November meeting featured a clinic by Rodney Black on signaling. This was the second of a four clinic series and focused on “Layout Design for Signaling”. Rodney is a master at making signaling simple and in this clinic integrated layout occupancy detectors, switch machines and signals with ABS, APB, and CTC signal systems and where the signals should be located.

The Front Range Division always has a little get together at Christmas called “Gathering of the Elves”. Here are some of the members eating goodies and talking trains.

The FRD acquired a new member, Jim Chaddix, who lived on the Hawaiian island of Oahu for 15 years. While there he explored and studied the Oahu Railway and Land Company. He gathered enough information and photos to publish a wonderful book. From there he developed plans for a On3 layout of the ORLC utilizing a mushroom design. He shared this information with us in January.

Finally, we regret to note the passing of long time FRD member and Telegrapher editor Keevan Burnside.

Keevan Burnside, father of Todd, Scott, Cheryl, Chris, and Kathryn-known as 'Barkeep' to his friends, has made his last run and final crossing, and is now probably conducting the Glory Train. 

He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on October 19, 1939. He graduated from Davenport High School in Davenport, Iowa in 1957. He went on to Iowa State University as a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Applied Arts in 1961.

Keevan was many things to many people. Most people, when they think of him, think of his love of trains. To say Keevan liked trains, both model and full-sized, would be much like saying a duck loves the water. In part, Colorado’s railroad history is what brought him to Colorado in the first place.

Set-em-up Barkeep, the Drinks are on Scoop. However, as usual, the Mayor will pay when he catches up with you one day.
