My name is Calista Moore and I am a Civil & Environmental Engineering student at the University of Washington. Graduating from Tahoma High School in Maple Valley WA, I grew up in Washington and enjoy hiking through its beautiful natural systems. My background has fostered a passion for water resources engineering and sustainability, and as a result I am focusing my studies on Hydrology & Hydrodynamics as well as minoring in Political Science.
I am motivated by the common good, whether it be improving water resources, helping students integrate into the UW engineering community, or learning about how to better civil infrastructure. My core values are rooted in producing the most for the groups, communities, and societies that I am a part of in an effective and helpful way. I believe that the purpose of leadership is to deliver something positive for the communities of the world, which is something that I find to be profoundly impactful.
In the short-term, I will pursue a graduate degree in hydrology to move forward in the water resources engineering field. I aim to apply my leadership competencies as a graduate researcher as well as an engineer in order to contribute to the groups and workplaces that I am a part of. This will require using my leadership skills gained throughout college to produce a better end result for my future research and engineering projects.
In the long term, I would like to contribute to the issues of water resources on a global scale. With current water shortages and global climate change, water resources will become exponentially more valuable and challenging in the years to come; I want to be part of the solution which provides the world with the water quantity and quality it requires while utilizing my leadership competencies in order to do so most effectively.
