Intergenerational Trauma and Attachment Lab

Welcome!

The Intergenerational Trauma and Attachment Lab at Cal Poly Humboldt focuses on research that examines the developmental psychopathology of attachment and trauma. Under the direction of Dr. Elena Padrón, the lab studies the intergenerational transmission of attachment and the impact of early childhood trauma on parent-child relationships. Research in the lab emphasizes underserved and minoritized populations, with a particular focus on former foster youth and their children. Current projects aim to uncover the mechanisms of disorganized attachment and explore how early experiences influence future caregiving and attachment patterns. The lab is committed to developing therapeutic interventions that promote resilience and support families at risk. Undergraduate and graduate students in the lab receive training in attachment research, trauma theory, and qualitative data analysis.
