According to the Texas Department of Public Safety 2018 Crime Report.
In 2018, the total number of sexual assault incidents reported in Texas was 19,816. This represented a 9.4% increase when compared to 2017.
The age group with the highest number of victims was the 10 to 14 year-old bracket.
Offense information in the sexual assault data collection program is collected according to Texas Penal codes. Offense information is collected on six sexual assault categories: Continuous Sexual Abuse of Young Child, Indecency with a Child by Contact, Indecency with a Child by Exposure, Sexual Assault, Aggravated Sexual Assault and Sexual Performance by a Child. Complete offense definitions are available in the Appendix to this publication. Of these six offenses, Sexual Assault accounted for 52.8% of all offenses reported.
In 2018, sexual assaults occurred most frequently in residences and homes. Other/Unknown was the second most common location reported.
It is estimated that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be victims of sexual abuse before their 18th birthday.
It is estimated that only 1 in 10 will ever tell someone about their abuse.
More than 90% of child victims are abused by someone they know and trust. In Central Texas 98% of child victims are abused by someone they love and trust.
Almost one million reports of child abuse are confirmed each year in the U.S.
A National Call to Action states that the rate of child abuse is ten times the rate of cancer.
An estimated 39 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse exist in America today
