Activity Time: 30 minutes
This activity introduces the uniqueness of water compared to other liquids. Students will explore how fresh and saltwater have different properties from each other and how both are different from other liquids. Additionally, the students will learn how the density of water changes between fresh and salt water and how some items will float in salt water but not in fresh water.
Activity Time: 20 minutes
This activity uses water to show how air takes up space. The students will explore a traditional Mi’kmaq story, the natural phenomenon associated with it and why the phenomenon occurs. This will be done through hands-on group activities.
Activity Time: 20 minutes
This activity introduces ocean density through a visual experiment for students. Students will explore how differences in salinity and temperature affect density, and how density affects an object's ability to sink or float.
