Capacity Building

Capacity building

Since paludiculture and the associated business chain is still young, the market is constantly evolving and there is a lot of room to grow. To achieve the rewetting of peatland on the scale that is needed, there is large demand for the building of technical, institutional, and legal capacity (Convention on Wetlands, 2021). In this chapter we highlight some of the developments that the production chain has gone through, as well as some practical improvements that have been made to machinery and the logistic chain. We also made three storymaps that showcase some successful peatland restoration projects and invite you to take a tour through their unique stories.

Ballinderry’s Peatlands (Ireland)

Ham Fen (United Kingdom)

Upland Peatlands (United Kingdom)

Les tourbières de Brière (France)

We also highlight some bottlenecks that still exist. Each of these bottlenecks provides room for optimization and cost reduction, and farmers as well as associated companies are constantly working on reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

We also highlight training and education options for peatland professionals in collaboration with peatland.eu
