Fall 2025
Fall 2025
As enthusiasm for and commitment to renewable energy grow among Lexington's student leaders, the Bluegrass Youth Sustainability Council has turned to community partners to help make solar PV a tangible reality on our campuses. Oftentimes, and for a variety of reasons, rooftop PV is not feasible for many of our Lexington schools. Until the day that solar PV is commonplace in Lexington, BYSC has partnered with Kentucky Utilities, Sierra Club and Lexmark to purchase and install eleven campus solar benches, allowing students to see the power of solar energy first-hand AND charge their devices carbon-free.
Kentucky’s position as one of the states with the least solar development as well as heavy reliance on fossil fuels has motivated our council to educate others on the prowess of solar energy. This has become one of our top priorities for the coming school years, as we aim to change the course of the status quo.
