The Renewable Energy Committee focuses on the future of solar energy in our community. We have provided 11 campus solar benches to all Fayette County high schools and are working to get all the middle schools a bench. Having these benches allows for charging stations for students and showcases what solar energy does. This year, we are working closely with Sierra Club Bluegrass Chapter on increasing access to renewable energy.

The Urban Trees Project Committee focuses on the sustainability and growth of Lexington´s tree canopy. Our current goal is to plant more trees on school campuses, benefiting the environment and bringing students and teachers closer to nature. Last year, we hosted one of the largest tree plantings at a Fayette County public school, an achievement we hope to replicate in 2024!

Gatton Park at Town Branch Park, Lexington's newest Park and Downtown Living Room, will transform acres of asphalt into an unprecedented signature park in the heart of downtown Lexington. BYSC students have played a critical role in offering youth insight in design, function and accessibility, leaving a lasting impact on their city for generations to come. For 24-25, we are working closely with Gatton Park at Town Branch to help raise awareness about the Park's impact on our city.
