Through an innovative partnership, we have developed a non-profit, sustainable, employer-based apprentice training program designed to educate and train students in various trades programs within the mechanical industry, such as pipefitting, sheet metal, and plumbing. In effect, students are learning through a combination of classroom instruction and supervised on-the-job training, all while earning their own income.
Walker White is a family-owned commercial mechanical and plumbing contractor out of Columbia, South Carolina. Through the Midlands Mechanical Apprentice Coalition, Walker White is dedicated to teaching young people trade skills that they will have for the rest of their lives. MMAC offers 4-year apprenticeships in plumbing, pipefitting, and Sheetmetal/HVACR. This apprenticeship program is a "Earn While you Learn" program allowing young people to start their careers right out of high school. In effect, students are learning through a combination of classroom instruction and supervised on-the-job training, all while earning their own income.
