Burrill Park was owned and created by Casey “Coach B” Burrill, a long–time teacher, coach, and web design legend from the William S. Hart Union High School District. After growing up and raising a family in the Santa Clarita Valley, he took all of his favorite things – teaching, coaching, web design projects, USC, family trips, and Pine Mountain Club life – and imagined them as one giant theme park. That idea eventually became Burrill Park.
Coach B spent decades teaching Web Development 1 and 2 at West Ranch High School, where students built websites about everything from cars, donuts, and sports to shopping cart races, trivia games, amusement parks, and Coach B himself. His class websites like WRWEBHEADS showed off years of student projects, assignments, and creative ideas. Burrill Park was designed as the “real life” version of all those projects, with each land, ride, and restaurant feeling like it came straight out of a web design assignment.
Outside of school, Casey and his wife Max moved from the Santa Clarita Valley up to Pine Mountain Club at 6,300 feet, trading city life for crisp air, four seasons, hiking trails, and national forest views. They still commuted about an hour each way to work in the Hart District, carpooling down the mountain every morning and back up every afternoon. Casey often said the drive was worth it because every time they came home, it felt like they were on vacation in the forest. That “vacation feeling” helped inspire the look and atmosphere of Burrill Park.
As the owner of Burrill Park, Coach B wanted the park to feel like a mix of his classroom, his Pine Mountain Club home, and his favorite memories from traveling, coaching, and family life. Many details in the park were nods to his real world: areas themed around road trips and RV summers, mountain–style sections inspired by PMC, and small touches referencing his love for USC, the Bears, LEGO, and classic family fun. Guests who knew him could spot little secrets and inside jokes all over the park.
Even though Burrill Park was full of rides, shows, and food, Coach B’s main goal as owner stayed the same as in his classroom – to encourage creativity, hard work, and a positive attitude. The park was built to remind students and families that learning and fun could go together, and that something that started on a simple class website could grow into a huge, imaginative world.
In the end, Burrill Park was more than just an amusement park with Coach B’s name on it. It was a tribute to the PMC Burrills story – from growing up in Santa Clarita, to teaching and coaching in the Hart District, to living in Pine Mountain Club – and a thank–you to the students, families, and community that helped shape Coach B’s life and career.
