February 9, 2023 -- Fundraising Success

Thank you to all teachers who donated items for the BEF's Bowl-A-Thon prizes.  We were able to put together two baskets -- a dog basket and a gardening basket, and purchase two separate $25 gift cards for Texas Roadhouse and Applebee's.

November 20, 2022 -- Thank You

Dear Burrell Education Association,

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our program.  We plan to put the money towards the purchase of a new camera.  Burrell teachers are the best around.  Thank you for all you do inside and out of the classroom to give us the best learning experience.  We are so grateful for your generosity.  Again, thank you for thinking of us.

Sincerely,

January 5, 2022 -- Burrell Education Foundation's Bowl-A-Thon

Due to the Super Bowl being on February 13, 2022, the BEF has decided to change the date of the Bowl-a-Thon to Sunday, February 20, 2022.  It will start at 1:00 PM at Wildlife Lanes.  We haven't had the Bowl-a-Thon in two years so this one will be the best ever!  This is a great family fun event.  Get the kids out of the house and have a good time with the BEF.  They will have raffles and a 50/50 drawing.

If you cannot attend, donations or prizes will be gladly accepted.  All profits made at BEF fundraisers goes right back into the district for mini-grants, student academic scholarships and other activities that make a positive impact in the district and community.

November 29, 2021 -- Burrell Education Foundation Support

Every year, the Burrell Education Foundation gives back to students and staff through scholarships and mini-grants, and in order to do that, they hold two fundraisers per year.  BEA tries to support them by providing donations in the form of baskets or prizes.

We are looking for BEA members from BHS and Stewart to provide baskets or donate money for the Bowl-a-thon.  In the past, departments or grade levels would put together a group basket or other basket-style item for a raffle, or individuals would donate money for prizes.

If you are interested in participating this year, please have your baskets or donations ready by the week of January 17, 2022!  Rebecca Fisher is organizing these donations, so please email her with any questions:  rfisher@burrell.k12.pa.us. Once we get closer to the date, we can organize a pick-up for baskets at each building.

Lastly, if you want to make a monetary donation for prizes, please give it to Adam Rossi at the high school or Joe Virone at Stewart.

November 17, 2021 -- Thank You

Dear Burrell Education Association,

Reading Railroad wanted to thank you for the donation.  The money was used for a variety of books.  The books helped us to promote reading, which is our motive.  The children really enjoyed picking them out.

Thank you,  Reading Railroad

November 11, 2021 -- Thank You

Dear Burrell Education Association,

On behalf of the Burrell Soccer Boosters, I would like to thank you for your sponsorship for our 2021 season.  Burrell Soccer Boosters relies on the generosity of donors such as yourself and we are grateful for your support.  Having sponsors is one of our largest fundraisers of the year and allows us to provide the following:

Your thoughtful sponsorship also helps us to offset some of the costs of the season which includes referee fees and support staff as well as concession items.  We know that many organizations reach out for support throughout the year, but we are truly appreciative that you helped support our efforts!

Thank you once again.  Sincerely,

Melanie Ferra, Burrell Soccer Boosters

August 11, 2021 -- Thank You

Our members received a thank you note from Maddie Quinn, the BEA scholarship for a child of a member award winner:

Dear Burrell Education Association,

I feel honored and humbled to have received the BEA Member Scholarship.  This means so very much to me.  It means so much to me because you all mean so much to me.  The teachers and staff at BSD have helped me to grow into the person I am today.  I have enjoyed all of my schooling and feel ready to take the next step.    I plan on studying nursing at Edinboro University this fall.

Thank you,  Maddie Quinn

June 6, 2021 -- BEA Scholarships

BEA President Cybil Federer had the honor of presenting the BEA scholarships to two Burrell students of the graduating class of 2021.  The BEA scholarship for a child of a member went to Maddie Quinn, and the BEA non-member scholarship went to Amber Bigler.  They each received $1500 because of our members' generosity.  Without you all, we would not be able to present such awards.  Thank you for all of your kindness.

May 23, 2021 -- Grievance Chair Needed

We are in need of a Grievance Chairperson.  This position, although used infrequently, is still an important one because of the legalities and paperwork.  The chairperson will complete paperwork and process contract disputes between the association and the district, and at times, it can be time-intensive.  However, there is a stipend for each grievance done, based on a sliding scale, which is dependent on how far the grievance goes and how intensive the process.  It is important for us to fill this position soon because it does require training, which will be held over the summer by PSEA.  If you are considering being more involved in the union, this would be a great opportunity.  We would love to have you!

March 5, 2021 -- National Board Certification

We have a staff member who achieved a highly prestigious milestone.  Meaghan Volek has earned National Board Certification!  National Board Certification was founded in 1987, to model other professions, such as medicine, in recognizing accomplished practitioners in their field of study.  Not only does this honor demonstrate a commitment to excellence, but it also symbolizes the grit and work ethic that we strive for in our students.  On behalf of all of us - Congratulations!

From Meaghan:  It was truly great colleagues that helped me along the way and made me want to do something a tad bit crazy!  I thank you all for your support day in and day outI'm most excited to have it crossed off the list!  Waiting for results was not an easy thing!  I'd also be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to the students that allowed me to analyze their work, video record them, and pick their brains.  They were obviously a big motivating factor in the endeavor two years ago when I thought about the process.  But, I'll never be able to thank them enough.  Thanks again, to the best staff around!
