During work inside an older Burbank-area home, a small compartment was discovered hidden within a wall.
Inside were a weathered journal, photographs, handwritten notes and 18 surviving pages from a newspaper called the Burbank Tales Times, dating from 1910 to 1957.
The newspapers were not stored chronologically. Some years are represented. Others are completely missing.
The materials appear to have been collected over decades. Several are damaged. Some references seem incomplete. And the journal suggests that whoever assembled the collection was doing more than simply saving old newspapers.
At first, the stories appear unrelated:
An asylum.
Disappearances.
Burial grounds.
Fires.
A meteor.
Spiders.
New housing.
But certain names, locations, dates and details begin appearing again.
And again.
Why were these particular stories hidden inside a wall?
RECOVERED MATERIALS
18 Newspaper Pages
Burbank Tales Times — 1910–1957
Nonconsecutive issues documenting unusual events in and around Burbank.
1 Weathered Journal
Handwritten entries and observations spanning decades. The writer identifies himself only as “A.”
Photographs & Loose Notes
Images, locations and handwritten observations associated with some of the newspaper stories.
Incomplete Material
References within the collection suggest that what survived may represent only part of a much larger investigation.
The newspaper pages were not stored chronologically. We have arranged them by publication date to follow the events as they unfolded.
THE RECOVERED FILES
We have arranged the surviving newspaper pages by publication date and paired them with the journal entries and other material found with them.
Some connections are obvious.
Others only become apparent much later.
And some may have no connection at all.
You can decide for yourself.
