ASYLUM REDUCED TO ASHES IN SUDDEN INFERNO
Burbank Tales Times — October 13, 1925
This is the end of the Burbank Insane Asylum.
At least physically.
The institution was destroyed by fire.
But the number of bodies recovered was far smaller than the number of patients believed to have been inside.
No complete patient ledger could be found.
That leaves an obvious question:
Where did everyone go?
The newspaper also confirms that experimental equipment was recovered from the ruins—including generators, restraints and surgical instruments.
Members of the Frankenstein family reportedly visited the asylum before the fire, while certain wings were said to have operated outside normal medical oversight.
And the Jekyll family?
They apparently left shortly before the asylum burned.
Their whereabouts were unknown.
Then comes a detail that may ultimately prove more important than the fire itself.
The property is going to be sold.
Developers are already interested in building modern housing on the former asylum grounds.
The building can disappear.
Records can disappear.
Patients can disappear.
But the land remains.
And we still have another unresolved question:
What happened to the cemetery beside it?
The smaller story about occult symbols discovered inside another abandoned home suggests the asylum was never the only place where disturbing practices were occurring.
The institution's story may be ending.
The story of its land may only be beginning.
