Unit Map
The Unit Map is divided into 5 lessons. Actual content will be taught for 5 days (1 lesson each day) and the other 5 days of the unit will be spent working on the unit assessment project.
Students will be able to...
UNDERSTAND the social aspects of industrialization
EVALUATE primary source documents that describe the impact of industrialization on various groups in the United States
COMPARE the impact of labor unrest throughout American history to the 19th Century
The above unit objectives were designed to work student's through the levels of Bloom's Taxonomy to achieve higher-level thinking skills. The unit touches on several different strands of the NC Standards Course of Study. Likewise, students will practice numerous inquiry standards by engaging with various primary sources and developing claims and using evidence.
At the end of the unit, students will create an Omeka site that defines aspects of industrialization and illuminates its impact on workers and working conditions in the United States. Students will create a collection explaining their topic in relation to the LEQ and then make connections to the UEQ by explaining how their artifacts (approx. 3-5) reveal something about industrialization and its impact on laborers. The project will be introduced at the beginning of the unit before content is actually taught so that students can begin researching and designing the site before their topic is discussed in more detail in class.
