Referees are an essential part of our game, and without them rugby simply doesn't happen.
The Buller Rugby Referees Association works closely with Buller Rugby Union under a "One Team" approach to support rugby across the region. From JAB and secondary school rugby through to senior club rugby and Heartland competition, our referees play a vital role in ensuring every player has the opportunity to take the field.
Whether you're a current player, former player, parent, supporter, coach, or someone looking to get more involved in rugby, refereeing offers a fantastic way to stay connected to the game. It provides opportunities to develop confidence, leadership, communication and decision-making skills while remaining active in the rugby community.
No experience? No problem.
We are committed to supporting new referees of all ages and backgrounds through mentoring, coaching, education opportunities and ongoing support from our experienced referee team. Whether you're looking to referee junior rugby, assist as an assistant referee, or work towards higher-level appointments, there are development pathways available to help you achieve your goals.
We are particularly keen to welcome youth referees, women and girls, current players, former players, and anyone interested in learning more about the game from a different perspective.
If you've ever thought about giving refereeing a go, we'd love to hear from you.
