JROTC is a leadership developmental program (elective) that is offered at Centennial High School. We teach students (cadets) to become better citizens for this great country. We focus teaching our cadets about responsibility, leadership, organization, listening skills, and other qualities that a leader needs to be effective in school and in the work place. We also try to instill decent human qualities in our cadets by teaching them the Army Values which are Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. (LDRSHIP).
The JROTC program at Centennial High School has been offered since 1897. We have a proud history in this program and invite alumni at any time to stop by for a visit of our new school and JROTC classrooms.
What we are not
We are not an Army preparatory class. We do not train cadets in military sciences, tactics, nor do we enlist cadets into the military. Cadets are not required to enlist in any branch of military service upon completion of this course although if a cadet wishes to pursue a military career the cadet will start at a higher rank upon completion of this course. If cadets are interested in a military college or service academy, both instructors can help the cadet with their application.
The Army JROTC Mission:
“To motivate young people to be better citizens.”
The History of JROTC
At Centennial High School, Army JROTC goes back to 1897 and is considered the earliest JROTC program west of the Mississippi River with the exception of a high school in Leavenworth, KS. Trophies, pictures, and documents can be found in the CHS Foundation Museum located near the front entrance. The Bulldog BN is working to display numerous trophies outside of the JROTC classrooms in the near future.
No Military Obligation: Participation in our JROTC program does not in any way cause any student to incur a military obligation whatsoever.
