And So It Begins...
Librarians Building Libraries was born out of conversations between Tom Bober, Amanda Jones and Andrea Trudeau after Andrea's work in rural Tanzania and Kenya in the summer of 2022 as a Fulbright-Hays Scholar through the Educate Global program at Northern Illinois University. During her six weeks in East Africa, Andrea witnessed the challenges students and teachers face due to limited access to books and educational resources; this inspired us to harness our skills as librarians to collaborate with local communities in creating and supporting libraries where they are most needed. By working closely with local educators, leaders, and students, we aim to build welcoming, inclusive spaces that provide access to a wide range of books and resources and foster a love of reading and learning. Through these partnerships, Librarians Building Libraries strives to empower communities, promote education, and bring knowledge, opportunity, and hope to readers all around the world.
Dr. Teresa Wasonga performs with her students at the Jane Adeny Memorial School.
Our first project will take Andrea back to one of the schools where she taught in 2022, the Jane Adeny Memorial School (JAMS) in Muhuroni, Kenya and allow Tom and Amanda to visit a school library on the other side of the world.
