The National Center for Women Information Technology, or NCWIT, is an organization focused on helping women in technology fields and inspiring more women to become a part of the field. NCWIT has a number of programs, some independent and some school based, to help women.

How to Join: NCWIT Alliances

Change leaders benefit from engaging with others who are equally committed to the mission of an inclusive tech environment. Listen. Educate. Support. Mobilize. Envision new ways of changing what’s possible. Alliances offer collaborative group connections, helping advocates of every size and scale sustain and grow the momentum of inclusion.

Post-Secondary

Many women lose their way in a classroom culture that is unprepared to include them. The Academic Alliance gathers representatives from more than 550 colleges and universities nationwide. Together, they shape solutions to change socio-educational systems that lower barriers for women in postsecondary computing.

NCWIT brings together more than 400 organizations and educational associations working to increase girls’ representation in computing. This connected group raises clear solutions that change what’s possible and propel diversity and inclusion.

Independent programs:

  • Community Meetups for women to meet one another and talk about what they have experienced.
  • Technolochicas is a program the NCWIT works in relationship to Televisa Foundation. This program is designed to raise awareness for young Latinos and their families about different technology opportunities available to them.
  • The Modern Figures Podcast is a podcast NCWIT makes in collaboration with Institute for African-American Mentoring in Computer Sciences. This podcast guest stars black women in their stories and perspectives about technology and society.

Programs are based on school level:

  • For K - 12 NCWIT has created the AspireIT program. This program works to connect high school and college women with K - 12 girls to teach them programming and computer thinking.
  • High school students have access to two different awards.
    • First, their is the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing. To encourage women to purse their passion this award goes to high school students that are active and interested in computing.
    • Secondly, their is the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Educator Award. This award celebrates educators that encourage high school women's interest and ability in computing.
  • The NCWIT Collegiate Award goes to college students, undergraduate and graduate, whose technical contributions demonstrate high levels of creativity and impact potential.
  • College and high school students can both be a part of the Aspirations in Computing Community. This community is a network of women that work together to encourage persistence in computing education and careers
