BUET Rover Scout Club is a central club of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). We take part in different extra curricular activities throughout the year. The Club was registered on 22 November, 1993 with the Dhaka District Rover Scouts (Registration No: 49) and Bangladesh Scouts, Rover Region (Registration No: 510/93).
The Founder of this club is Prof. Dr. Nizamuddin Ahmed, Woodbadger, NTC (in the 2nd photo frame). He was a Professor of Architecture Department in BUET and National Commissioner (program) of Bangladesh Scouts. He is currently the VC of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT).
Since then, BUET Rover Scout Club started to take part in different outdoor volunteering activities like arranging Free blood donation camp, Free medical camp, Physical and mental development programmes, Youth Motivation Programmes, Pure drinking water supply camp, Anti-Drug addiction camp etc. Our indoor volunteering activities include BUET Annual Sports Programme, BUET Annual Alumni Reunion Programme, BUET Admission test Programme and different events organized by BUET monthly or bi-monthly basis.
The Rover program had it's origins in two different schemes. The first, aimed at Boy Scouts in the United Kingdom who were aged between 15 and 18 years, was called "Senior Scouts" which was launched in March 1917 during World War I. It quickly became apparent that there weren't enough adult male leaders available in wartime, and it was several decades before the Senior Scout Program was established. The second scheme was the series of "Battlefield Scout Huts" provided for the recreation of British and Empire soldiers in rear areas of the Western Front.
In Bangladesh, scouting started formally in 1972 (though scouting has been active in this region since 1947). Bangladesh Scouts got the recognition as the 105th member of WOSM in 1974. The Honorable President of People's' Republic of Bangladesh is the chief scout of Bangladesh Scouts. The elected President and the Chief National Commissioner carry out the responsibility of it's successful operation. Bangladesh Scouts have 12 regions including the Rover Region. The Rover Region embodies institutional (colleges and universities ) and open groups. It may be noted that there are almost one million scouts in Bangladesh including forty thousand Rovers.
