What a day the BST Adventure 2025 was.
For first time, in 23 years, the BST Adventure was a wet day. However 37 teams were undetered and put on their waterproofs to enjoy the extra challenge.
Congratulations to Scout winners 3rd Davyhulme Team 1 who collected all but one checkpoint for 225 points. Snowdon ESU once again took the Explorer section trophy with another maximum 240 points.
Our Team Spirit Awards went to 3rd Davyhulme Cubs, 24th Swinton and the combined Salamander/ Snowdon Explorer team.
Overall there were 173 young people;
34 Cubs
118 Scouts
22 Explorers
Representing 8 districts and 2 counties. A record for the event. Collectively they collected 4245 points
A massive thank you goes to all the leaders who made the day possible. It takes an army of people to put on the event and even though the conditions were not ideal they still kept the teams moving and spirits high.

In 2027 the BST will celebrate its 25th Adventure. To mark the occasion we are looking to have a party to bring everyone together from across the county. To make this happen we are looking for help. You can sign up to be part of our organising teams by completing our form on our 25th Adventure page.
You can also see what event organiser Neil Tucker had to say on the event as he presented his idea.
It is hard to believe but our 25th Adventure is approaching in 2027 and along side our annual events we want to celebrate this landmark year.
Our idea is to host our traditional event followed by an overnight camp with entertainment and food and a new event on the Sunday.
We are looking for leaders to head up and be part of some teams that will coordinate with the campsite, organise evening entertainment and organise the catering for all guests.
If you are interested you can join our initial meeting call on 27th March at 8pm.
We are pleased to announce that BST Adventure is returning for our 23rd edition in 2025.
Date: Saturday 20th September 2025
Venue: Rivington Barn, Rivington, Bolton
Once again the event will feature Scout and Explorer competitions and a themed walk for Cubs. The event is primarily open to those in Greater Manchester West but if you are from outside of the county please let us know and we will try to accomodate you.

It has been a busy few months for the BST Adventure as we have been working away at this years event. Although the event may not look very different we have some big changes in the background to help the running of the event and to ensure everyone's safety.
Marshall's Website
Last year we introduced a marshall's website during the event. This had lots of information about teams taking part, emergency protocols and contact information. For 2024 we have updated these pages to give more information at the finger tips of our marshalls both on checkpoints and as sweep teams. This will further enhance the safety of both participants and marshall's by giving more visibility to how teams are progressing around the course.
This was recently tested and some updates made. Further testing will take place before the event in September.
Two leaders with Inexperianced Teams
Following an update in advice from the Scout Association it will now be mandatory that where leaders are accompanying an inexperianced team that there are two adults. At least one must be a leader with basic training complete and good hill walking and navigation skills and at least one other with a valid DBS check. This also keeps the event inline with updates to the Yellow Card.
The full information for this years event can be found here
Marshall's Registration
Whilst team registration is due to open in mid June we are ready to ask leaders to once again be Marshalls. Other the years this army of volunteers have really made the event into a success. Whether it is responding to an emergency, rescuing lambs or just giving that last bit of encouragement to get a team home there wouldn't be an event without them.
We are looking for
Start/ Finish area - based at Rivington. Marshalls register teams, do kit checks, set teams off and register them back in at the end.
Control - based at Rivington. We are looking for someone with good computer skills to help run our control. This is were we keep an eye on all teams and move our sweep teams around.
Checkpoints - based in one location accessible by car. Our checkpoint marshalls ensure teams are ok and able to carry on in the event.
Sweep teams - Our sweep teams roam an area of the course and respond to issues on the course. Sweepers must have good map reading and hill walking skills.
As always there will be a training session in September.
If this could be you please register here. Or if you would like more information please contact bst.adventure@gmwscouts.org.uk

We want to make 2024 even bigger. This years event will take place at Rivington Barn on Saturday 14th September and we will be welcoming Cubs, Scouts and Explorers to once again take part and test their hill walking skills.
We are already making plans with an updated tracking and scoring system to keep everyone safe and a new theme for the Cub Adventure. Once again we will be asking for volunteers to be marshalls as well. More information will be released over the coming months including marshall sign up and team registration.

We have had a brilliant response from leaders to be marshall's at the event and we will be in touch over the summer. If you would like to be marshall at this years event please sign up here
For the first time the BST Adventure will feature a category for cubs (aged 8 to 10.5 years).
Cub teams will walk a set 6km course with 5 manned checkpoints. Teams will consist of between 4 and 6 cubs with 2 leaders per team.
For 2023 the theme will be a 'Pirates' with teams adding stickers found at each checkpoint to their map as they search for the map for the treasure.
For over 20 years we have relied on some fantastic marshalls to make the event work. Without their efforts the event would not be safe or fun and we owe of each of them much more than we can ever give.
2023 is no different.
We are looking for marshalls in three areas;
Sweep Team Member - Part of a small team of between 2 and 4 that walk an area of the map between checkpoints. This requires good hill walking and navigational skills.
Checkpoint Marshalls - Based on a checkpoint out on the course. This will either be Rivington School, Pike Cottage, Pigeon Tower, Low House Car Park. Marshalls will need access to a vehicle for the day.
Start/ Finish Team - Based at Rivington Car Park you will be welcoming teams, registering and checking kit. Monitoring teams progress during the event and welcoming them to the finish.
Everyone will receive training and an overview of the event before the day.
Whether you have helped out before or this could be your first time at the event we would love to hear from you.
If this could be you please sign up on the link below or if you have a question please email bst.adventure@gmwscouts.org.uk
16th September 2023 is the date for the 21st BST Adventure. We will be back at Rivington for the event with a new set of optional checkpoints. Don't worry though our mandatory checkpoints will stay the same so those you are less confident can look to hone their skills on the basic route.
Registration will open in June so follow us on Facebook for the latest information.
For 2023 BST Adventure has produced a new website.
The website has two sides to it. A public side that will contain information about the event whilst the private side will provide an additional resource for marshalls during the event.
For the first time marshalls out on the course will have access to data whilst out on the course. Marshalls will be able to see the last locations of teams and the time it was registered, contact other marshalls at the push of a button and have access to documentation on the go. This improvement will help to further improve safety during the event.
We hope you have enjoyed our 2022 event and all the photos we have had in.
Thank you again to everyone you took part and everyone that helped out. You can stay in touch with the event via our newsletter and our Facebook page as start to plan BST 2023. Please see some images from the event.
Our 20th BST Adventure is now all done. A big thank you to all that took part and especially our brilliant marshalls but for now here are the results. Also a special mention to our Team Spirit winners 27th Wigan B and Lonsdale ESU. Well done to all!
